MELBOURNE, QUAY WEST

Image Number 247

Most images of the Melbourne skyline are made along the Yarra River or from buildings within the city itself.  One of few vantage points which encompass the heart of the city is Pullman Quay West on the south bank of the river west of the art centre.

To achieve this shot, Atticus Webb gained access to the top floor after negotiating the janitor and the airconditioning equipment.

TECHNICAL NOTES

Captured by Atticus Webb from the 26th floor of The Pullman Quay West, Melbourne, on a Zeiss Contax 645 medium format camera with Zeiss 35mm wide angle lens at F8 with an exposure of 8 seconds – no wind and bless the tripod.   File size 260 meg, 8 bit.  The image has not been cropped.

The image was registered on a Phase One IQ180 80 megapixel digital back at ISO 200.  The combination of sensor size and megapixels captures approximately five times more detail than the highest resolution 35mm SLR camera currently available – and explains the high resolution.
