The Kruger National Park covers nearly 2 million hectares and is unrivalled in South Africa in terms of its size and the diversity of its life forms.  The park is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians , 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals.  

The spectacular greater blue-eared starling may be found throughout Africa, but is by no means common in  terms of its appearance.

TECHNICAL NOTES

The image was taken with a hand-held Phase One 645 Camera at ISO 400. Exposure of 1/320th of a second and aperture F5.6.   300 mm Mamiya lens with focal plane shutter.   The image was captured on a Phase One IQ180 80 megapixel digital back.
