Gruyeres, in South-West Switzerland is celebrated not simply for its world-famous cheese, but for its medieval village and great castle. But Atticus Webb loved Gruyeres and the road south through the Saanen Valley because it is a wonderland of traditional Swiss farms and ancient wooden houses. This farm was just south of the town.

The image was taken with a tripod-mounted Phase One 645 Camera at ISO 200. The aperture was F4.8 with an exposure of 1/250 second. 80 mm Schneider-Kreuznach lens with leaf shutter. The image was captured on a Phase One IQ180 80 megapixel digital back. Shadow areas have been opened using Capture One.
