RUINED MINE, LIVET-ET-GAVET, FRANCE

Image Number 14

Livet et Gavet is a "ghost village" South of Briancon on the French/Italian border.  For three hundred years it was the centre of a rich metallurgical industry but the factories were overtaken by technology and closed one by one, leaving their ruins alongside the river that powered them.  Atticus visited the village three times to capture the brooding melancholia. No tourists visit Livet et Gavet.
